For the first time in Austria and for the third time in Europe we proudly announce the upcoming event of 2018 the 22nd ISSW (International Snow Science Workshop).
It is the world’s largest conference on snow and avalanches and its success lies in the motto: ‘A Merging of Theory and Practice‘

Unlike any other symposium, the ISSW promotes international and interdisciplinary exchange between experts in the snow community. Around 1,000 local, national and international participants from experts to decision-makers and stakeholders are expected to attend the ISSW2018. The typically broad audience of the ISSW includes scientists and practitioners from engineering, infrastructure, ski resorts, forecasting and warning services, ski and mountain guiding, search and rescue, research and education, as well as tourism and industry.

Program

The thematic focus lies on current advances in snow and avalanche science, case studies and innovative technologies at an international level. The general ISSW topics include protection measures, avalanche forecasting and dynamics, snow management, as well as guiding, rescue and risk strategies. Furthermore, the ISSW2018 emphasises special topics such as ‘Integral Engineering Solutions’, ‘25 Years Avalanche Danger Scale’ and ‘IT in the Field’. For the first time the ISSW2018 will offer a variety of training courses for all interested parties. The excursions offer a unique opportunity to gain insights into the activities of local experts in impressive surroundings. They are a unique mixture of specialized information and enjoyable side-program.
Different presentation formats like oral and poster presentations, panel discussions, as well as the integration of an international exhibition, allow for direct interaction amongst the different experts in their fields.
