Special Topics

Special topics (ST) represent a platform for presentation and discussion of specific current practical and scientific topics, which may aggregate multiple general topics.

Every ST is divided in two sessions:

  • an oral session which takes place in the afternoon and
  • a subsequent poster session

ST oral sessions are part of the ISSW 2018 afternoon program and are carried out in parallel and concurrent to the ISSW 2018 training courses.
The general presentation language is English, professional translation services will be available for all STs taking place in hall “Tirol”.

ST posters are displayed throughout the whole week and will be especially highlighted in the corresponding oral session.

ST Oral Session

ST oral sessions are part of the ISSW 2018 afternoon program and are carried out in parallel and concurrent to the ISSW 2018 training courses. There will be long and short oral sessions, with a duration of one or two sessions blocks of 75 minutes each with a half-hour coffee break in between.

In short oral sessions a sequence of 6 consecutive presentations of a duration of 10 minutes is followed by 10-15 minutes panel discussion.
In long oral sessions, there will be 7 consecutive 10 minutes presentations in the first session and 5 consecutive presentations in the second session followed by a 25 minutes panel discussion.

Every ST oral session ends with a short session summary and an outlook on the corresponding poster session by the respective session chair.
Presenters are asked to prepare slides (16:9 format) in English.

Although the general presentation language is English, professional translation services will be available for all STs taking place in hall “Tirol”.
Presenters are encouraged to present in one of the four conference languages.
ST oral sessions neither require pre-registration for attendees nor have an attendee limit.

 ST Poster Session

ST posters are displayed throughout the whole week (format portrait A0, max. 150cm*90cm) and will be especially highlighted in the corresponding oral session. Dedicated poster sessions are taking place after the afternoon ST oral sessions and training courses and have a duration of 75 minutes. During the poster sessions, one of the authors will be at their poster site to answer questions. They are carried out in parallel with the poster sessions of the other general and special topics of the day.
